Sen. Lisa Murkowski's Senate Lecture to Bobby Jindal

No mention of the Drift River Terminal situation, but her talk is primarily about the importance of comprehensive monitoring, how well it has worked in this set of eruptions, and plans for improvements to the system.

Yes, she is all for it, but couldn't vote for the ARRA. LOL Isn't that sad.. just like so many of the other R's and some of the D's that voted against it.. vote against but take credit for.

Ash, ash, ash. That's all she talks about. I almost came to the conclusion that if people stopped flying there wouldn't be a problem any longer given how focused she was on air travel.

6 million gallons of oil at Redoubt's base aside, let's remember that America's most dangerous volcano isn't in Alaska, it's in Washington state. And that would be Mt. Rainier. One of Rainier's typical lahars could peel off the mountain this summer and there wouldn't be the days or weeks worth of notice that the people of Alaska got for multiple ash plumes. There would be an hour, at most, for thousands of people to get out of the way. Several cities and towns would be covered in mud.

Problems with air travel just pale in comparison.

HoB,

House of Brat can be special place. Thanks for commenting here.

I grew up in South Seattle - Sea-Tac. You're absolutely right about Mt. Rainier. Not sure what can be don there, but hope there is something DOABLE, as my mom, sibs and daughter all live in the shadow.

Sadly, there isn't much that can be done about it other than don't live in one of the lahar pathways. Sad but true.

The Seattle Weekly had an excellent article on the landslide factory that is known as Mt. Rainier a few years ago. Article is here.
