Friday's Drift River Terminal Disaster Declaration Petition

On Friday, Trustees for Alaska filed a petition requesting the governor declare that a disaster is threatened by the continuing presence of six million gallons of oil in the Drift River storage facility at the bottom of erupting Mt. Redoubt. The terminal is situated in the flood plain of a river that has now flooded twice in just a few days.

I've created a jpeg set of the three-page petition:

Do you really think this will have any influence with Palin?

Seems like a disaster is something Palin would relish - she can "rise to the occasion" and have a big press conference and issue breathless calls for "unity" and ask for prayers and sympathy and donations, and some donations to her legal fund while your at it, and whaa whaa whaaa. Frankly, she's probably praying for a disaster to divert attention from what a disaster she is.

I sincerely hope, and wish, and pray, that these tons of oil do not do not do not get out to pollute Alaska.

Yes, if the situation is picked up in the media, and if there is the possibility of a positive photo-op of her bravely averting disaster for all Alaska and the nation.

(And where was she a month ago, when all this could have been handled safely??)

(P.S. You might ask Mudflats to look this petition over, and put it on her "Action" board, and network with some other bloggers as well.

I came here from Immoral Minority.)

Mrs Palin seems ultra-reluctant to stick her nose into this one.

The mistake here is in not sending this to SarahPac, where the decision to respond (or to fail) will most likely be made.

Rob in Ca,

I'll pass that along to the Trustees...

On Friday AK State Representatives Les Gara, Beth Kerttula, Berta Gardner, Harry Crawford, Pete Petersen, Chris Tuck, Bob Buch, Max Gruenberg and Woodie Salmon wrote a letter to the Commissioners of The Department of Fish and Game and The Department of Environmental Conservation. So Sarah is in the loop. I'll try to post a copy of the letter at Ptarmigan Nest later today. www.ptarmigannest.net
