Saradise Lost - Book 3 - Chapter 6 -- The Courage of Shannyn Moore, Part II - Updated

Back in May, PA posted an article called The Courage of Shannyn Moore. The article was inspired by Moore's passionate articles and broadcast appearances highly critical of U.S. policies of torturing prisoners, whenever and wherever that has happened. The only other Alaska blog to visit and revisit this important issue has been PA.

On Friday July 3rd, I received an email that indicated there may be an indictment looming against Sarah Palin. Although I didn't post the information here, I did post it as an update to an essay published elsewhere.

I believed it at the time, and am not yet totally sure the information as erroneous. That update may have been the first of a cascading set of events that Shannyn is now taking the heat for, totally without justification. If the heat should go on anyone for this, I suppose it should be me.

But I didn't post it as "fact," but that I had received the information as part of an email. And in the article to which it was an appended update, it fit into the context of trying to speculate on the ramifications of very quickly breaking news that made little or no sense. It still makes little or no sense.

People all over the world are coming to Shannyn's defense on this. Here are links to some of the best articles:

AK Muckraker at Huffington Post:

Despite the fact that she specifically refers twice to the report as a "rumor," Van Flein says she portrayed the story as fact. The only fact is that there are rumors. I know because I've been hearing them since last October. They even have a name - "Housegate." If you Google "Palin Housegate," you get 8,600 references, beginning back with an article that appeared in the Village Voice. Googling "Palin sports complex scandal" gets you 230,000. How many mentions are required to constitute a rumor? It's probably less than 230,000. I'm not exactly sure how the legal dynamic duo of Palin-Van Flein is planning to un-rumorize almost a quarter of a million online references to a rumor that started 8 months ago, but it will be interesting to watch.

Linda Kellen Beigel
at Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis:

I watched Shannyn's piece on MSNBC...both she and David Schuster were VERY CAREFUL to say that what she was discussing were rumors circulating in Alaska for weeks. Up here, you can't ignore rumors. (You know, like the rumors circulating for weeks about Bristol's pregnancy...those sure turned out to be false, didn't they?)

Regarding the speculation (something we are doing a good bit of on this blog as well), Palin CANNOT expect to leave the State of Alaska...hell, the entire country...hanging and not expect rampant rumors to persist. Then again, she's Sarah Palin...I guess she expects to have EVERYTHING the way that SHE wants it!

Gryph at The Immoral Minority:

And just to help clarify this story. ALL Shannyn did was say that there was a rumor of a criminal investigation against Sarah Palin. If you have read this blog or Dennis Zaki's blog, or the comments at Mudflats, or any number of other blogs you have probably known about that for about two months. It is not news to those of us who follow the Palin story carefully.

And in ALL of that time Sarah Palin and her cronies never said a thing about the validity of the charges. But now that the media is searching for a reason to explain Sarah's bizarre behavior they suddenly feel all defensive and victimized.

But remember NOBODY said this was an FBI investigation. The rumor I heard was that it was an IRS investigation. Now that MAY turn out to be a false lead as well, but it is definitely a well known rumor. However if you read or listen to ALL of Shannyn's responses you will hear that she carefully avoided labeling who was investigating Palin, or what kind of and investigation it might be. However even if she had stated what I just stated above, she STILL would have been protected by the First Amendment.

Look let's cut to the chase. The only reason that Palin targeted Shannyn is because she received air time on Hardball with David Shuster on Friday and that pissed Palin off.

Progressive Alaska:

This SLAPP threat is hilarious enough to make some of us think we might donate to HER legal fund, so you can continue to project Palin onto the national stage, as she deals with having to go through your lame designs for her future.

and:

Look Mr. van Flein, as much as we comment about how strange, funny, vindictive, unprepared, ignorant, selfish and foolish Gov. Palin often appears, when it comes to reporting what we hear or read about her, what we write is in the hope of ultimately arriving at truth, not fiction. We sure are not out to hurt her or be malicious. We have quashed many untrue rumors, some of them quite rapidly.

We all have mixed feelings about Ms. Palin. But to characterize Shannyn Moore or the other Alaska bloggers as unscrupulous will not hold water.

That's the local bloggers, watching Shannyn's 180.

Here's the national humor blog, Wonkette, a site that dearly loves our soon-to-be-ex-governor:

How did you spend the Fourth of July? Maybe having a BBQ with friends and family, watching a fireworks show, and generally enjoying a happy patriotic holiday? Batshit-insane American Quitter Sarah Palin ended her own special “Independence Day” by posting a series of desperate grammar-challenged nonsense and vicious threats on her Facebook and Twitter pages. Really.

(Also: Sarah, you idiot, when do you plan to give up your Twitter name AKGovSarahPalin? Because, you know, you just quit being governor ….)

It is unwise to dwell on the past or be obsessed with an unknown future, but we should all appreciate the wonderful present — a present in which Sarah Palin is nothing more than a punchline. Because, had things gone very differently in November, this dangerous delusional numbskull would’ve been just an Ambien overdose away from the presidency.

Thank you, America, for steering clear of the Sarah Palin disaster.

So, after crazily quitting her elected position as governor of Alaska, via an alarming backyard last-minute press conference void of any explanation , at the classic 4 p.m. hour of the Friday-Holiday news dump, Sarah Palin is now twatting on the twitter about how her Anchorage attorneys are going to SUE THE AMERICAN MEDIA, for saying “WTF?”

Update: Shannyn Moore will be holding a press conference today at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Governor's Anchorage office.

Phil, will someone be filming this? Will there be any streaming? I am sure you will be there. Best of luck to all of you. The AK5 are truly class acts!

I will not be there. I have no details on the press conference.

We'll be in Anchorage at Mickey Belden's memorial service at UAA, which begins at 2:00 also.

I am not a Palin Frenzy club member and can take her or leave her...I said when she was elected that it would be for only one term.

But the way the alaska bloggers have attacked with no evidence at all is really irresponsible. To report on rumors without any evidence is quite something. No one had any credible source for this so-called FBR investigation other than the booze-filled rumor mill the progressives call networking.

basheert said...

Anon@1:00pm

Boy where have you been? The bloggers simply reported, for months, all the wacky SP word salad and mouthspew that she provided.

Where do you get off calling this FBR - (WTF???) rumor booze filled? First of all, it's FBI and the FBI has said "no" to it. It was speculated to be IRS (NOT FBI) and no one really knows the status if any of this.

And reporting on rumors is WHY thank heaven, we do NOT have SP on the national scene for which we are all grateful.

Go back to your alcohol-induced coma and read the Sunday funnies. I'll put my faith in the Alaska bloggers who felt they had to expose who and what their narcissistic sociopathic GINO said and did to the world. Her ignoring of native villages, her secessionist AIP husband that she asked the McCain camp to lie about? None of this was rumor. There are too many to count.

She lies....and lies...and lies. It's all she knows how to do and it's all she can do.

She's a quitter and a loser.

She deserves every bit that has been tossed at her. But she cannot win a lawsuit. SLAPP protects the bloggers.

Reporting on rumors is allowed, in spite of her wish to the contrary.

I want a bumper sticker that quotes Shannyn's BEAUTIFUL LINE:

Suck it up buttercup!

Now I just need the right photo of Palin to go with it.

That line is so good it makes me mad I didn't think of it first LOL

Hang in there Shannyn. Depositions were the most fun I ever had. It is amazing what people will say when they don't think before they speak and of course Missy Sarah is great at that.

God I want to be at her depositions !

Anonymous said...

She wanted all this publicity. Even if the rumors turn out to be false, you don't leave one of the top jobs in the country and not say why. If it's false in what others are saying, then so be it. Who cares? There's not an investigation.

Two weeks before the VP nomination she said that she wasn't interested.

She would get invites, ignore them, then show up places.

Saying that she is taking a trip to Mars would not shock anyone, and her showing up and taking tea with the queen would not shock anyone.

She wants to be left alone yet courts rumors and the press.

I would have to say to just ignore this nut case for a few weeks and hope that she settles and then we can hear from her.

Todd always appeared rational-- if she really started to go off the deep end like she seems to be, can we trust him to take her aside and get her some help?

The lady needs a break, and she needs to apologize to Alaska for her bizarre actions and she needs to do so in clear, concise English.

Phil, I am sorry for the loss of your friend. The music you wrote is absolutely beautiful. As I listened, I pictured Joe's old boat and a lot of mist. Not sad, but haunting a bit. You are a man of much depth.

When we lose people we care about, it makes some of Sarah's actions seem like a distraction to what is really important.

On C4P, "Videmus Omnia" has just "outed" himself and writes now under his real name (Tim Lindell).

He encourages the readers to "vet" him and admits that he received some speeding tickets in the past.

However, that's not everything.

I posted this message already twice on C4P, and both times it got deleted by them very quickly.

I posted it a third time now, and it certainly will be deleted very quickly, too.

I believe that it's important that the world knows a little bit more about Tim Lindell.

--------------

Hi Tim,

good to see some courage here!

But wait a moment:

Wasn't the reason for your anonymity the fact that at least until very, very recently you were an active duty soldier - and that your activity on this blog was a direct violation of military regulations?

http://www.gordon.army.mil/osja/pamp.htm

There was some PDF document floating around which seemed to contain very precise information...as you will certainly remember, because one of the Alaskan bloggers back then took a stand and defended your anonymity when she received the PDF document and alerted you to it....yes, this blogger who herself was working for the US military for many years, who is handicapped and who has been smeared here at C4P over and over again...

Well done, Tim! You are an outstanding officer, I salute you!

basheert said...

VidO/aka Tim Lindell.

NOW he outs himself?
One of the snarkiest, nastiest, vilest extreme C4Per???? That isn't news - it's a bid for attention. Perhaps he will run as her Vice President of Insanity and Corruption?

I know a number of active duty military individuals and none of them sink to his level. He USED his "service" to attack others service.

Sorry, he may be an outstanding officer but he is a lousy human being. Serving in the military does not give you a permit to attack people.

VidO is as bad as SP. He uses what is convenient to attack others.

JMHO.

I am sending prayers for the Beldens right now, Phil. You were good to let us know of Mickey's death. Hugs to her husband.

Phil, will any of the AK blog community be summarizing Shannyn's presser today for those of us who cannot view?
Thanks....

Syrin has left an extremely interesting comment on Shannyn Moore's blog:

"There are several more RUMORS going around.

Such as: Palin was found guilty of abuse and misconduct for wrong doing with her ‘Legal Defense Fund” (WHY DOES SOMEONE ETHICAL NEED A LEGAL DEFENSE FUND?) millons of dollars are said to be un accounted for RUMORED embezzlement- Sarah Pac sponsored?… She was given an ultimatum (I think this is highly improper, possibly unlawful) by her appointed 3 member personnal board that she, if continues to be the Gov the TRUTH of the matter would have to come out and the whole mess and paper trail would have to be released to the public. However, it’s RUMORED if she RESIGNS she was told by that appointed 3 member board that determines ETHICAL matters in the State of Alaska that she can essentially TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a RUMOR"

mlaiuppa said...

Ooooo. There's another RUMOR.

That the three person personnel board finally had enough and told her that if she didn't want to face ethics charges on the fund trust she had better resign. If she did, she could keep the money. Or something to that effect.

Somehow this doesn't seem that big.

I'm still thinking IRS.

But....we'll see.

Anonymous said...

@Jim, will Lindell be in trouble now? What is the penalty?

Jim said...

I am sure he would be in trouble if his superiors knew about the facts.

The moderators at C4P have good reasons for deleting my comments.

Use Palin in her awful crocheted YELLOW bedjacket marching in Juneau. I think there's one on Immoral Minority.

That is the most hideous YELLOW jacket I've ever seen.

And Palin's wearing it.

There's your "suck it up, buttercup" bumpersticker image.

I don't know...even after the shocking surprises of the past couple of days, I still have this feeling...

The next 3 weeks is an A-W-F-U-L long time to wait on tenterhooks while Palin plays the game, "will I...won't I...maybe....yes...no...WAIT, I never actually SAID I RESIGNED!! Bwahhhhhhahhhhahhhahha!"

Someone in authority -- a state judge, perhaps? -- should take away her Blackberries NOW, ask for her office keys and badges, and tell her to go home to Wasilla and wait for the 26th.

My advice - leave Vid Omnia alone.

Somebody sent a lot of personal info on him around to all the progressive AK bloggers a couple of months ago. none of us published it. somebody over there - who knows who, right RAM? - tried to destroy him, and we protected his anonymity.

Who is Edward Teller and who does he know over at CNN ?

Is this where Shanny is getting her "rumors" from ?

Bruce Barker said...

Fact. No findings of wrongdoing have come from multiple investigations precipated by Palin haters with no ethics themselves.

Fact. 240,000 rumors, 240 million rumors perpetuated by like-minded idealogues don't make a fact.

Fact. ACTUALLY destroying someone's good name is a greater evil than being accused of wrongdoing without evidence.

Fact. People who can't reason and argue their case on the merits, resort to slander and libel and namecalling.

Anonymous said...

Fact: Palin called our president a "pal of terrorists" and a "socialist" - now let's factually discuss the sick art of "namecalling", shall we?

Anonymous said...

No blogger has a leg up on Sarah when it comes to name calling, libel and slander.

We reap what we sow and now Palin's getting a firestorm thrown at her for the lowbrow tactics of name calling and terror inciting she did on the stump.

I say turnabout is fair play - always was and always has been.

Anonymous said...

As they say 'what goes around, comes around' and Palin's getting her fair share of karmic payback in my book.

Her pissing contest with the mainstream media and free press is only going to take her numbers down, down, down - like the titanic.

Some folks just cannot resist getting caught up in the petty, mud-wrestling and mus-slinging which is MO for Palin throughout her life. All of the Palingates attest to that fact.

Of course, when ignorance is mistaken for bliss and unconscious incompetence is the level of spiritual enlightenment, then one can expect absolutely nothing else.

Anonymous said...

It's simply the law of attraction playing out.

That which we focus on, we achieve.

Palin wants the press when she wants it and then slanders it when it's realistic. She's been obsessed with the press by hiding from them throughout her candidacy and then accusing them of asking her "trick questions" - ah....like "what do you read?". Wow. When asking what one enjoys reading becomes a "gotcha question", we know precisely what mentality we're dealing with here.

That one answer did more to out this woman than anything else could have because most literature individuals actually DO read - something.

It goes without saying - Moore is a true american "hero".

Anonymous said...

Kudos, shan. Keep up the great work for the people and for our constitutional rights.

Everything this woman has ever done has been a sham where she actually quit everything from college to governor.

According to the Peter Principle, when one ascends to a position beyond their capability and intellect, they resort to the "cut 'n run" tactic - making all kinds of excuses and allegations along the way in an attempt to stupify the less enlightened with total doublespeak and diarrhea of the mouth. (4:00 cobbled together press conferences are usually their precise MO).

Thanks Phil, I will happily live VidOm alone, in spite of his vicious attacks against me when I spoke of my family's service (evidently it didn't reach the pinnacle of success that his did). I have a very sore spot towards his nastiness, sorry.

The fact is, Sarah Palin has tweaked, pulled and prodded for publicity. She shouldn't whine, name call and lie when she gets it. You cannot have it both ways.

To me, one of her most egregious offenses was the whole lie about TAHD being a member of AIG. When she asked the McCain campaign to LIE for her and the emails are now public. Just another lie from the Hillbilly Snowbunny.

She needs to go - and allow Alaska to recover from her very very short tenure since she's now quit that job too.

This isn't about rumors. Shannyn reported a rumor as a rumor. Even if it was stated as fact, it isn't slander or defamation. SP is a public figure and the bar is very high to prove intent. That's the key word, "intent".

Thanks for all the good work Phil, and welcome back.

Besides, whether sarah's other shoe drops right now or sometime later, we know there will always be another shoe to drop with an ethically challenged individual.

Eventually, they take their flagrant narcissism to the level of criminal activity and are nailed for it.

It may take time but if history is an indicator, we know that there will be plenty (and even more now that they cannot be fired by this dictator) of ethical/criminal charges against her when she leaves.

Just visit the blogsite "palingates" to see how many she's already amassed in her very brief tenure in public office beginning with the recall as Mayor of Wasilla.

How truly pathetic you people are. Sarah Palin is a good and ethical person and if any lawsuits ensue against you, you will have deserved them. You are nothing but vile and despicable bullies with absolutely zero class! I'm sure the ethically and morally challenged owner of this blog will delete my comment but I will make sure the things that are being written about Sarah Palin are archived and forwarded on to her and her legal team. It is important that she knows who is defaming her.

Anonymous said...

He may be morally and ethically challenged, but at least he allows his detractors to leave comments for him.

I'll give him props for that, but not much more.

destroying someone's good name is a greater evil than being accused of wrongdoing without evidence.

I agree very strongly with that statement.

Send the AK Bloggers to a class on the ethics of journalism, they could use a little schoolin'.
