Saradise Lost - Book 3 - Chapter 12 -- If YOU Could Depose Sarah Palin, What Would YOU Ask?

Should soon-to-be-ex-Gov. Sarah Palin's attorney, Thomas van Flein actually go ahead and sue Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, or any of the rest of the Alaska bloggers or citizen activists for "malicious" whatever, one of the very likely consequences would be a deposition or depositions of the ex-Gov.

An easy target might be all the lies she has told over the past two weeks. Were any of them or all of them "malicious?" Is it malicious for her and Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell to inaccurately claim that citizens' requests for clarification of interpretations of our executive ethics statutes have cost the state "millions," when that appears to be not just wildly inaccurate, but intentionally false? Is it malicious for her to claim Alaska Natives on the lower Yukon have obtained 50% of their subsistence needs at a time when passing on that lie might hurt these peoples' ability to have honest efforts directed their way before the short summer there is past? Was it malicious for Palin to assert that she had made a pact with the Secret Service that didn't exist? Was it malicious for Palin to lie to the McCain campaign - repeatedly - about her husband's level of involvement in the Alaska Independence Party?

In all these instances, either uttered, twittered or uncovered during the past week, it appears to me, Palin was, to borrow from van Flein's July 4th statement, false, defamatory, and perhaps unscrupulous.

Should Palin sit in on a deposition for me, my attorney might ponder (courtesy of Andrew Sullivan):

Palin lied when she said the dismissal of her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, had nothing to do with his refusal to fire state trooper Mike Wooten; in fact, the Branchflower Report concluded that she repeatedly abused her power when dealing with both men.

Palin lied when she repeatedly claimed to have said, "Thanks, but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere; in fact, she openly campaigned for the federal project when running for governor.

Palin lied when she denied that Wasilla's police chief and librarian had been fired; in fact, both were given letters of termination the previous day.

Palin lied when she wrote in the NYT that a comprehensive review by Alaska wildlife officials showed that polar bears were not endangered; in fact, email correspondence between those scientists showed the opposite.

Palin lied when she claimed in her convention speech that an oil pipeline "began" under her guidance; in fact, the pipeline was years from breaking ground, if at all.

Palin lied when she told Charlie Gibson that she does not pass judgment on gay people; in fact, she opposes all rights between gay spouses and belongs to a church that promotes conversion therapy.

Palin lied when she denied having said that humans do not contribute to climate change; in fact, she had previously proclaimed that human activity was not to blame.

Palin lied when she claimed that Alaska produces 20 percent of the country's domestic energy supply; in fact, the actual figures, based on any interpretation of her words, are much, much lower.

Palin lied when she told voters she improvised her convention speech when her teleprompter stopped working properly; in fact, all reports showed that the machine had functioned perfectly and that her speech had closely followed the script.

Palin lied when she recalled asking her daughters to vote on whether she should accept the VP offer; in fact, her story contradicts details given by her husband, the McCain campaign, and even Palin herself. (She later added another version.)

Palin lied when she claimed to have taken a voluntary pay cut as mayor; in fact, as councilmember she had voted against a raise for the mayor, but subsequent raises had taken effect by the time she was mayor.

Palin lied when she insisted that Wooten's divorce proceedings had caused his confidential records to become public; in fact, court officials confirmed they released no such records.

Palin lied when she suggested to Katie Couric that she was involved in trade missions with Russia; in fact, she has never even met with Russian officials.

Palin lied when she told Shimon Peres that the only flag in her office was the Israeli flag; in fact, she has several flags.

Palin lied when she claimed to have tried to divest government funds from Sudan; in fact, her administration openly opposed a bill that would have done just that.

Palin lied when she repeatedly claimed that troop levels in Iraq were back to pre-surge levels; in fact, even she acknowledged her "misstatements," though she refused to retract or apologize.

Palin lied when she insisted that the Branchflower Report "showed there was no unlawful or unethical activity on my part"; in fact, that report prominently stated, "Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

Palin lied when she claimed to have voiced concerns over Wooten fearing he would harm her family; in fact, she actually decreased her security detail during that period.

Palin lied when asked about the $150,000 worth of clothes provided by the RNC; in fact, solid reporting contradicted several parts of her statement.

Palin lied when she suggested that she had offered the media proof of her pregnancy with Trig to "correct the record; in fact, no reports of her medical records were ever published; and the letter from her doctor testifying to her good health only emerged hours before polling ended on election day, even though there was nothing in it that couldn't have been released two months earlier.

Palin lied when she said that "reported" allegations of her banning Harry Potter as mayor was easily refutable because it had not even been written yet; in fact, the first book in that series was published in 1998 - two years into her first term - and such rumors were never reported by the media, only circulated as emails.

Palin lied when she denied having participated in a clothes audit with campaign laywers; in fact, the Washington Times later confirmed those details.

Palin lied when asked about Couric's question regarding her reading habits; in fact, Couric's words were not, "What do you read up there in Alaska?" or anything close to condescension.

Palin lied when she mischaracterized the "$1200 check" given to Alaskans as the permanent fund dividend check; in fact, that fund had yielded $2,069.00 per person. She claimed otherwise to obscure the fact that Alaskans also received a $1200 rebate check from a windfall profits tax on oil companies - a tax widely criticized by Republicans.

Palin lied when she claimed to be unaware of a turkey being slaughtered behind her during a filmed interview; in fact, the cameraman said she had picked the spot herself, while the slaughter was underway.

Palin lied when she denied having rejected federal stimulus money; in
fact, she continued to accept and reject the funds several times.

Palin lied when she claimed that legislative leaders had canceled a meeting with her to hold their own press conference; in fact, they only canceled it after being told she would not participate, and the purpose of the press conference was very different from the meeting's.

Palin lied when she announced on the news that she never holds closed-door meetings; in fact, she had just attended a closed-door meeting with the legislature earlier that day.

Palin lied when she said that former aide John Bitney's "amicable" departure was for "personal" reasons; in fact, Bitney said he was fired because of his relationship with the wife of Palin's friend, plus a Palin spokesperson later claimed "poor job performance" for his firing - without elaborating.

What would you have Palin asked during her deposition(s)?

Not for the deposition; but I'd like to know why did she flew to New York to attend a celebration for Alaska's 50th anniversary, but did not attend any events in Alaska on July 4th? Especially since she was invited, and was only 150 yards from the parade route in Juneau??? Not very patriotic in my view!

Will Mr. Sullivan be able to PROVE that Ms. Palin LIED when he goes to court? Just curious.

This is funny watching all these stupid libtards freaking out....retribution is mine sayeth the Lord.

I would like an honest answer about the parentage of baby Trigg. We know Sarah is not the biological mother. Who is - Levi's mother, his sister, Bristol? Who is the father? Is it Todd,Track or Levi.

There is enormous scandal here or she would not have gone to such lengths to lie about her pregnancy.

Palin lied when she posed for the only picture showing her visibly pregnant. The picture was arranged by Bill McAllister and staged by Andra Gusty. Were they in on the lie? You BETCHA

Keep up the great work down in the "lower 48" we are praying others can see your truths.

Questions:
1. When did you stop telling the truth (about anything)?
2. Why do you still lie about open and transparent government, when not even Frank Murkowski tried to charge thousands and millions (AP) for public records requests?
3. Will you promise to stay under house arrest in Wasilla and spare us- if we agree to ignore you also, too?

I think this litany of Palin lies qualifies for the moniker of 'pathological liar'. I had NO idea her lies were so incredibly profuse and extensive.

Of course, we observed her lie about Obama on the stump - and repeatedly which attributed to middle america losing any shred of respect for the woman.

Wow! All I can say is Wow and I hope that this list of her lies makes it to the mainstream media.

I still don't belive that she returned the clothes so I'd love to know precisely where teh $250,000 worth of wardrobe are situated right now.

Incidentally, keep up the great investigative journalism here because I've sent to everyone I know and it covers about 12 states. They, of course, have sent your site to their friends, children, and communities.

The only way to keep people like this honest is to 'out them' when they lie and deceive. Hell yeah! (and she's supposedly some kind of religious individual?)

Great list!

Trig. All the evidence that has been gathered by PD and all other blogs proves Palin was not pregnant with Trig. That was the first lie I heard from Palin's mouth. So, I think that would be a very good beginning. That in and of itself would prove this woman is one sicko kinda person to the world. Oh, and who aided and abetted her in pulling off that lie. All the rest of the lies would fall into place. Like the walls of Jericho.

Thanks for a great post!!!!

Mine would be:

Why did you deliver Trig at a small community hospital that doesn't do high-risk obstetrics, when you were closer to a large hospital in Anchorage with top-level neo-natal intensive care unit, where your physician had privileges. Doesn't being 44, in pre-term labor with a ds baby qualify as just a tiny bit high risk? Give me a break.

Shannyn Moore was brilliant last night on MSNBC’s Olbermann when she confessed that, “People are making up their own reasons why she is quitting”. We should all thank Shannyn for being truthful in admitting that she and her ilk are “MAKING UP” the reasons as to why Palin is quitting.

Anonymous said...

Regardless of where I'd start in a deposition, I'd just like to hear the former Gov. swear on the bible to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.....

Patrick said...

I would also ask her about the parentage of Trig.

This is Sarah Palin's biggest lie, and it will continue to haunt her. Sarah Palin has not given birth to Trig, Bristol has. When are journalists starting to ask questions to Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, Bristol, Levi, Mercede etc. - it's about time.

This lie will break Sarah's back, politically. She would never be able to recover from it, and it's a little miracle that the truth hasn't been revealed in public so far, although many people in AK and other places already know about it by now.

Absolutely amazing.

The creepy left is totally obsessed with this woman. I am beginning to think that perhaps she IS the one we conservatives need.

She certainly seems to have put the fear of God into the athiestic left.

"I am beginning to think that perhaps she IS the one we conservatives need."

You betcha'. As a Democrat, I hope you are right. We could then say buh-bye to Sarah Palin AND the GOP.

How you coming on getting Letterman fired? Met your Fund Trust goal yet? In fact, is there any money left in the trust?

I'd ask Palin why didn't you go the nearest hospital the moment you thought that your waters had broken. Why didn't you have your leakage tested......and WHY WHY WHY for goodness sake did you take a plane journey that was going to last over ten hours and risk infection, putting both yourself and your premature child at risk. What you did was absolutely disgraceful and totally at odds with your so called pro life ethics.

I would ask Sarah why she does not make her points with gentleness and love. Why all the vitriol and hatered?

It is sad to see that people who "claim" to be christian, get down right nasty and mean in their comments. Maybe they need to study up on the beatitudes.

Maybe Sarah, and her followers, should spend time reading the bible and praying for understanding instead of throwing stones.

I know God gave me a brain so I could read up on issues and come to an informed opinion. I know there are good programs out there that can deprogram some of these automatrons who just spout off quotes they hear on Fox.

To Anon at 1:45pm.

You missed the point of Phil's entire piece. We do not need to "make up" reasons that Palin has abandoned her job, ie "quit". We merely need to wade through the mire of lies that she has told and speculate upon which of the many might perhaps be the reason behind why she left her job.

Could be one of the lies on the list or perhaps another forthcoming deception. It's a waiting game at this point.

I'm not sure I'd ask Sarah Palin any questions directly, unless I have her medical records in front of me -- which I would have already obtained via subpoena duces tecum.

I also would have a medical records expert examine those records very closely to make sure they haven't been tampered with.

I would also obtain other medical records as referred to in her own medical records; such as records of her documented offspring, and records from other medical institutions and physicians, if any.

Ah, there is surely a MINE of information!

That is, if Palin's crack Republican RNC/McCain team of sweepers didn't eliminate all her medical records when they descended on Alaska last fall.

Hey, do you think Palin is having a "Twilight Zone" moment, and is mistaking her own wrecking crew for the evildoers she THINKS came up to Alaska?

I would ask the Grifter to please reveal Todd's contract with Arctic Cat.

Just musing here but I'm wondering if this wasn't an inside job to pressure her out of office by the GOP and republicans everywhere.

Let's face it - their party is fractured by her and the lunatic rightwingnut fringe and those in office who at least feign a bit of seriousness and dignity about who they are, what they do, and what the party stands for.

Right now the LAST thing they need is to patronize the wingnut fringe which comprises less than 10% of their 22% of americans. Palin has become the GOP "spoiler" much like third party candidates have been for the dems over the past. The GOP can see the handwriting on the wall and I'm guessing that their other rising stars have been inciting things against palin from within as well. She's being skewered by her own (eating their own?) and I think she knows it.

As for having to fabricate ethical problems and separating the truth from fiction every time this women opens her mouth, it's a heyday for anyone who wishes to sabbotage her at any time. There's enough there to take her down any day of the week without embellishing or exaggerating at all.

She's being run out of office. She was right in one thing she recently said.

She CAN definitely OUTRUN Obama. His star is rising and hers is crashing so she's running out of dodge like an Olympian.

Anonymous said...

There are so many to pick from and this is by no means all of the lies she has told. Can I order a psychological evaluation?

I would like to ask her why she keeps lying about the amount of money spent by the state to fight off ethics charges. Why do employees spend 80% of their time dealing with these complaints? How many employees are we talking about here?

Would also like to know how much money has been taken out of the defense fund and how was it spent? Ditto for SarahPac.

Would like to know what type of thrill she gets out of lying, is it a habit, a character flaw, personality disorder? Does she think she is smarter than everybody else and that easily fooled?

She lies about the stupidest, easiest to prove things (all it takes is google) in the world...gas line being built, didn't support bridge to nowhere, Todd not in AIP. Heck, she just lied today about Todd and some buddy building the boat she was in (Todd might have built another boat, but he didn't build that one). Just crazy stuff.

Please get this on Huffington Post!!!!

Great list! Now we need to not only get this on Huff Post, but Politico and e-mail it to Letterman, Olbermann and Maddow. I'm sick of this woman lying her face off all over the tv. Her supporters aren't going to realize how they've been grifted until they see her traveling the country on their money and not doing anything else.

I truly think she sees the Pac as a way to see the country and world and all she has to do is say Repubs good Dems bad and it's a political trip. That's when they'll realize they've been duped by the biggest Grifter of them all!

Can you tell me of any Sarah watchdog sights in the lower 48? Im affraid when she comes down here you guys will be glad to be rid of her and stop digging. Keep up the great work!

My question would be to Sean Parnell:

Are you seriously going to keep a woman in charge of the Agriculture Dept. who listed her "lifelong love of cows" as her qualification? And who on a farm visit happily exclaimed to the farmer about the cute little baby cabbages (they were brussel sprouts)! My God, what kind of Valley Girls are these who don't recognize a (non)cabbage when they see one? Were they so busy partying and shooting things that they never went to the Fair?

the problem child said...

Unfortunately, most of these questions(great though they are) would be outside the scope of a deposition/ discovery concerning "rumours about housegate/ fed investigation" because they would be objected to (rightly) as irrelevant to the issues at trial.

But, I would like to ask, 'Who were your contractor buddies and what work did they do?'
'Where are all your receipts?'
'Did you report all of this to the IRS as income?'
And, just to cross the line a bit, inviting objection 'Why are you such a pathological liar?'

I'd ask her if you had apologised yet as you said you would do while on the radio with Eddie Burke. :)

All these lies justify spreading known-to-be-false rumors about Governor Palin.

Please logically explain that one !

What Moore did was wrong, plain and simple.

Saw this posted under the article in the Alaska paper.
“Shannon Moore has done way more than pass on a rumor. She should be sued for her slander and character assasination of the Palins. Personally, I think she should spend some time in jail. Her blog should be considered criminal defamation. Freedom of speech does not give one the right to defame others. And purely for the sake of personal hate.
Though, look at what ktuu and adn have done since Sarah was elected governor. No unbiased or even handed reporting there at all. More pure hate. They act affectionate and friendly towards the legislative and oil criminals but nasty to the reformer Sarah. They were never that nasty to the criminal Murkowski, or Lyda Green, or Bev Masek, or Ben Stevens, or John Cowdery, or Vic Kohring, or Pete Kott, etc. ktuu's vendetta is so obviously personal. Well, troopergate was covered by Jason Moore defending his former boss, Walt Monegan. Fair and even handed? I think not. And who did ktuu send to the Republican National Convention? Why Jason Moore, of course, who hates Sarah.
Where was the harshness when Murkowski appointed his DAUGHTER to take his seat in the senate? Over more experienced candidates, even! Or when Lyda Green and John Harris ran the Legislature like their personal playground? Not a peep from ktuu. Nor anybody till Mark Kelsey was editor of the Frontiersman. Then there were quite frequent exposes. But nothing since from any local media. Our local media does more disservice to Alaska than even the criminal legislators.

I would ask about the emails to Schmidt re: Todd
and the AIP. Why did she want Schmidt to say that
Todd 'checked the wrong box on the form' in an attempt to conflate registering as an Independent with being a member of the Alaska Independence Party ?

And also. Who told her to tell Schmidt to do so ?
I am guessing Todd . . .

Those emails really exposed her. But it will be Babygate that brings her down, probably thanks to Levi (thank you in advance Levi !)

she has never even met with Russian officials.
