Hollis French Joins Rob Rosenfeld and Bob Poe in the 2010 Alaska Governor's Race

Alaska State Senator Hollis French announced today his intent to run for the office of Governor of Alaska.

He joins Rob Rosenfeld and Bob Poe. Some have speculated that ex-House Minority Leader Ethan Berkowitz will also file for this race, but Berkowitz has stated he won't make an announcement until later in 2009.

Bob Poe has enlisted some of he most talented Democratic Party campaign people already, including ex-Communication Director, Kay Brown.

It may be quite a battle for French to chip away at Poe's support, from French's position at the left side of the mainstream Democratic Party here. Unlike Poe, French often seems ill-at-ease in front of audiences, and doesn't strike me as nearly as passionate about his ideas - some of which are quite sound - as do Berkowitz, Poe and Rosenfeld.

Should Ethan also run, there will be three primary contestants competing to the left of center in the Party, with Poe all alone to the right of center.

French is whiny and I cannot stand to listen to him. Whomever wins the gub election will probably be doing a lot of talking and trying to show that the AK CEO has to be taken seriously.

I think a large Dem field would be nice if the candidates focused on getting a positive discussion on the issues out to the public and stayed completely away from negative sniping, but I somehow doubt that will happen.

Poe has been campaigning all year now. Does anyone plan to interview him?

poe used to be on KUDO constantly until they cut off local programming a couple months back. he appeals to me a lot. the others are closer to me in the ideological spectrum, but poe seems trustworthy and engaged and knowledgeable. i'm thinking his long lead time, travel and legwork will pay off.

ABS,

The best interview with Bob so far is the one by Brendan Joe Kelley, in the Anchorage Press:

Bob's article defending Mudflate, when Mike Doogan used stste resources to "out" Mudflats, showed Bob at his best:

I have to wonder if this run for gov on the part of French has anything to do with WHY OUR LIMP DICK LEGISLATORS DID NOT FOLLOW UP THEIR GUILTY VERDICT (TROOPERGATE INVESTIGATION) WITH ANY CONSEQUENCES.

IF so, the shame on French. Too many Alaskans have suffered for his (possible) lack of action--they could have impeached her or at least censured her--at that time.

Was he afraid going harsh on Palin would look questinable when he announced run for gov?

I do NOT care for ANY politician who acts/refuses to act out of his own agenda rather than for what is right.

Sorry French, but Poe--so far-- will get my vote.

You have never seen an ego so big as Bob Poe's. Hollis French not only has the smarts and guts for the job, but he won't pump tens of millions of public dollars into obvious white elephants just to prove he has a big dick.
