Ethan Berkowitz-Don Young Debate at Williamson Begins at 7:00 p.m. Tonight

Tonight's candidate debate at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium on the UAA Campus (at the corner of 36th and Lake Otis) will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Several sites, including Progressive Alaska, had listed the start time as 6:00 p.m. Technically, that isn't entirely in error. Between 6:00 and 7:00, former KTUU-TV News Director, John Tracy will play tapes he has made, interviewing U.S. Senate candidates Mark Begich and Ted Stevens. Ted isn't in town. He's busy listening to other tapes.

At 7:00 p.m, Berkowitz and Rep. Young will face off, in their first head-to-head Anchorage debate since the primary races were settled. The debate topics, hosted by the AARP - boy, are they hard to get in touch with in Anchorage! - will "include Social Security, Medicare, access to health care and the increasing cost of utilities."

John Tracy?

Former Headmaster of the "John Tracy KTUU School of GOP Talking Points"?

With such famous alumni as Meg "Totally in the Tank" Stapelton, Dan "I'm wackier than you" Fagan, and Bill "Deer in the Headlights" McAlister.

I was hoping we were totally done with John.

John Hernandez tried to get Sarah Palin to be a sportscaster at KTUU. When he came back from covering the Calgary Olympics, John Tracy and another guy had gotten into management and apparently didn't share Hernandez' vision for Sarah so she was out later, too. True story!

How tall is Berko? Is he standing on a lower step in this picture? He looks so tiny in this pic!

The anonymous user is correct. I was the sports director that hired Sarah and I DID want to give her more work on the air. I had been promoted by a former News Director --John Larson-- to take the place of John Carpenter, who had no business being the sports director at that time. Larson asked me if I wanted to have Carpenter out completely, but I said that we ought to keep him. After Larson left, Carp got tight with Tracy and the ND who was a KTVA castoff. They convinced GM Al Bramstedt to force me out after I returned from covering the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
Glad that Sarah remembered to list ME first in Going Rogue!
