Saradise Lost - Book 4 - Chapter 56 - Trig Palin and the Unanswered Questions

Part of the importance of Palin's facebook writer lashing out in the names of Palin and one of her daughters this past week being countered by the real actress behind a voice on a cartoon show, is that once again, Palin's treatment of Trig, before and after he was born, needs to be far more closely scrutinized than has been the case.

Down Syndrome victor, Andrea Fay Friedman has presented the most clear image in our nation's history of a person successfully realizing and fulfilling life, while dealing day to day with her tough challenge. Andrea's descriptions of her upbringing, education and professional career are compelling. Her immediate criticism of Palin's comment about the show Andrea had voiced was as straightforward and honest as Palin's posts Andrea was responding to, were patronizing and dishonest.

It's important to revisit how bizarre Palin's atitude toward Trig is.

She only disclosed the pregnancy very late. She hid Trig so intentionally, that her slimness has helped give credibility to some who question whether or not she really did give him birth. Knowing that her fifth child's delivery might be risky to the unborn person in her womb, she flew all over the place. Then she flew all over the place again and again. Then her water broke, and she flew all over the place with Trig again. And again.

Although Palin has stated numerous times that she has produced a public birth certificate for Trig, there is no such document. The MSNBC emails revealed that a medical insurance query had asked for it.

As Andrea said on Thursday, "my mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of french bread."

Images of Palin on the campaign trail in 2008 with her younger son, and on the book tour, show Palin doing just that. Again and again.

I've seen enough posts, gotten enough emails and comments about Palin's irresponsibility and disregard for Trig to fill a large book. Many of the comments here are on the mark, and share life experiences from women who, had they treated their late pregnancies as Palin did hers, the kids wouldn't have made it.

Then there's the stress the unborn kid who is going to need extra help is undergoing in a pregnancy such as we now know Palin was inflicting. To me, that's the weirdest aspect of Palin's conduct then. She had to know what she was doing was hurting him. Didn't she?

"like a loaf of french bread."

I wasn't upset with Palin's public appearances that included Trig during the 2008 presidential campaign during the campaign itself. The way she seemed to not connect very well with Trig during the well-covered book tour bothered me, though.

The way her people so indignantly jumped on Rahm Emanuel for something he had said way, way last summer was also weird. Then Palin gave Limbaugh a pass for worse. "Satire," Palin explained.

Andrea says:

I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line “I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska” was very funny. I think the word is “sarcasm”.

Andrea Fay Friedman's challenge to Palin Friday was this:

I'd like to see [unclear] a normal environment for Trig, and have a normal life like I have, and don't treat him like he's a loaf of bread.

That's not right. He needs a normal life. Like I have.

The a$$hole Palin actually excused Lombaugh by calling what he did "satire", not "sarcasm". In fact, Limbaugh's repeated use of the term retard was in no way satire. It was just obnoxious.

I bring this point up only because what "Family Guy did was, in fact, satire, yet Sarah jumped all over the show, because Sarah Palin is a hypocrite, who won't call Rush out, because she knows he would crush her like the bug that she is.

She is such a loser. I have no doubt that she will have anymore to say on this subject, because she has been smacked down big time by Andrea Friedman. If she does respond, she will only look like a bigger a$$ and idiot.

Exactly right Phil.

Sarah Palin has given speeches and written in "Going Rogue" about her "decision" to give birth to a baby with Down Syndrome. Sarah Palin's follow-up with appropriate intervention for a Down Syndrome infant is a natural outcome of her stated decision. She chose to display her infant an amazing number of times during her VEEP campaign and during her book tour. Some basic interventions were notably missing (for example, glasses).

Sarah Palin can either demonstrate basic interventions OR take her Down Syndrome child out of the public spotlight. The choice is hers. But continued public display of the child WILL invoke the criticism Sarah Palin deserves.

I believe, though, that Sarah Palin's Down Syndrome child will continue to be deprived of basic interventions. There no way to force Sarah Palin to be a caring, intelligent parent.

Sarah Palin's reckless behavior while pregnant and supposedly in labor has always caused me great concern as a mother. The simplest explanation...she was never pregnant, and Trig is not her biological child.

I have seen pictures of Sarah pregnant and with her other children on Palingates and other sites. There is a huge difference in her appearance and her demeanor with her other children. Piper is her baby, not Trig, and that is clearly evident in her affection and love for her that I have seen over the past year and a half. Just look at photos, the interviews with Barabara Walters, Oprah, etc. Any mother will see what I am talking about.

$arah did not give birth to that baby. Where is the birth certificate? What doctor will come forward (with Sarah's permission, of course) to go on the record and state that $P gave birth to that baby, when and where?

When will the MSM call $P out on the reprehensible act of naming her adopted DS child after his condition (Tri-G)?

Well done commentary on a sticky subject. I am a born cynic, and have looked at every way to see Trig as Sarah's baby. The mountain of evidence proves to me that she adopted Trig. Adoption is a good thing, but lying about it for sympathy and personal gain is degrading to the child, and families like the Friedmans. Sarah is a low-life.

Bravo Phil! This is an excellent summary.

I would add one thing. Sarah herself very recently revealed that Trig has holes in the heart which are only beginning to close up.Why oh why then was she carting poor Trig around during the 2008 campaign? She claimed that when asked to consider the position of GOP candidate for VP that she did not blink. Why not? I'm absolutely sure that if I had been in the same position of having recently given birth to a Down Syndrome child who had multiple holes in the heart that I would have blinked and continued to blink over and over again.

Phil - I don't believe she gave birth to Trig and here is why. She has told at least 5 different versions of the circumstances of his birth, most recently when she was in Texas for the Perry fundraiser. At that event, she stated that when she was giving her speech at the gov's convention, she felt such strong contractions that she had to turn over the microphone and leave the event, and that she gave birth to Trig "that evening". This is completely different from the version of events she described in her book - that the speech went great, mild discomfort, and she gave birth to him at 6:30 the next morning. No mother mistakes the time of her child's birth as "that evening" if it occurred at 6:30 the next morning. I also point out the email from the man who saw them and spoke to Todd that night in the Seattle Alaska Air lounge. He said "you sat there calmly reading, I didn't realize you were in labor." No woman who had to leave a meeting in the early afternoon because of contractions would be sitting comfortably reading a book 6-8 hours later. Yeah, I wonder if he even noticed a baby bump? I believe the birth of Trig by Palin is a lie, though I don't know how it would ever come out because certainly only those in her inner circle really know the truth, and it would only come out if one of them got good and truly pissed at Palin. My $.02.

Can Sarah's treatment - lack of attention to his specific DS need of early intervention - be some type of child abuse? If so, the State should remove him from her care and place him in a loving, pro-active home with people who will provide him the care he needs to have a chance at living a productive life.

And is it not also child abuse when a parent does nothing to ensure that her children, Piper specifically here, get a good education to prepare them for adulthood? I'm sure that if Piper were tested as to level of learning, she could easily be at 1st or 2nd grade.

As someone said at Palingates, Sarah does not deserve to have children!

To be so wreckless and lack the common sense of not going immediately to a hospital in TX but flying forever while putting the life of her child on the line makes this Alaskan forever grateful she quit as governor. She didn't have the judgment necessary to do the job.

To be so dishonest and self-serving as to fake a pregnancy, if Trig is an adopted child, this Alaskan is forever grateful she quit as governor. She doesn't have the character and integrity to represent anyone, especially me.

Virginia Voter said...

Why is it that Sarah's followers always say liberals would abort their child if it was determined to have DS in utero? I don't get it. Liberals only want choice, to be made with a woman and her doctor. Conservatives are only pro-birth...just have the baby, and don't let it be a burden on society once it's born. Conservatives are against everything and anything that helps mothers and children...including health care reform, education funding, and even school breakfasts for low income children. It baffles my mind how someone could be pro-war, pro-dealth penalty, pro-gun, and then call themselves pro-life. Typical conservative hypocrisy.

BTW, one of my prenatal screening tests came back false positive with one of the markers for DS when I was pregnant with my second child. I refused to have an amnio, because I was going to have the baby anyway, and didn't want to take the risks associated with the procedure. Unlike Sarah, I didn't contemplate abortion, or take unnecessary risks of flying while leaking amniotic fluid.

If she was in fact pregnant with Trig, she did everything possible to have a self induced abortion or have the baby die at birth.

If conservatives are the ones against education, how come Obama killed a voucher scheme in D.C. that would have benefited the children of poor African-American families ? Seems Obama cared more about the wishes of the Teacher's Unions then about giving a great education to poor kids. But then why would a liberal want poor kids going to the same school his daughters attend.

I once thought that the speculation that Palin faked her pregancy was nuts. But the more I've read, the more photos I've looked at, and, especially, the more I contemplate her "wild ride" story, the more obvious it is that something is very weird here. Two things seem like huge flags to me.

For one thing, in this time of malpractice suits, what doctor would give her (the governor of Alaska!) the OK to fly in her condition? Talk about risking a giant lawsuit....

When Palin announced that Bristol was pregnant to address the rumors about Trig, I was shocked. What mother would deliberately drag her child into the brutal public eye to save her own political career? Why on earth wouldn't she disprove those rumors by simply showing a birth certificate or having her doctor come out and say, "Yes, she gave birth to him?" Or--better yet--just ignore the rumors as if they were too crazy to even address? Instead, she threw Bristol to the wolves.

I also agree with Virginia Voter, though: If there's any way she was pregnant, her behavior suggests that she may have been hoping for a miscarriage. Maybe she couldn't acknowledge that to herself, but she has experienced, what, two previous miscarriages? Her actions are far more consistent with that explanation than with any account that has her flying for hours, driving past hospitals with proper facilities, etc.

I don't know what the explanation is here, but I do know her version makes no sense--like pretty much everything she says and does these days.

Troll@10:57: Pretty obvious you are trying to control and misdirect the topic.

I have never believed SP gave birth to Trig and even if she did, she has not bonded with that child. If she was a neighbor I would have reported her child neglect to a Child Protective Service.

The fact is, the PalinBots make every excuse possible for their Evil Queen and her possible abusive behavior of her children. It's pretty obvious that trolling doesn't work here, so let's get back to the topic.

Down's Syndrome and Child Neglect. If this is motherhood in Alaska, and everyone knows it is happening and allows her to lug her loaf of french bread around under her arm, then Alaska has a problem. Hypocrisy always comes out. And with SP's mouth-breathing monkeys, she keeps painting them into corners.

So how will they respond - now that even individuals with DS are making light of SP's stupidity, abuse and hypocrisy?

Anonymous said...

Why should Palin apologize to Friedman? Amusing how liberals confer absolute moral authority on those they deem "worthy" while those on the wrong side of the political debate only get abuse. Friedman is an actress who read lines written for her by a liberal hack. Just because Friedman has Down's Syndrome doesn't make the nasty dig at Palin's children in Family Guy any less disgusting. If the actress reading the line didn't have Down's Syndrome then the predictable lib-left attacks on Palin over this wouldn't have happened. Family Guy was just another example of liberal elitists using vile smear tactics against ordinary Americans and their families...those who live outside the leftist cultural bubble understand this. Libreals, of course, rejoice in all that is hurtful against those that don't follow their worldview.

Anonymous said...

Wow, even liberal comedian Joy Behar agrees that the hack writers on Family Guy went too far with their "joke" about a Down's Syndrome child...

"I think that, as comedians, we have a sort of an obligation to make fun of the guys up above, not the guys down below, people who are in trouble, people in pain," Behar said. "What’s the point of that? That’s an easy shot. So I agree with Sarah on this one."

Yeah, but the Alaska progressives think that making fun of Down's Syndrome is cool.

Palin's pregnancy would have been, or should have been, considered a high risk pregnancy because of her age. If she was pregnant, she should never have gotten on a plane. Her story does not make sense. It is a lie or negligence.

Translation........we haven't got much to hit Palin with because nothing we're doing is stopping her so let's fall back on the whole Trig thing. So having suffered an epic FAIL with his "slut' mishap, PA desperately flails around for another excuse to attack Palin.

And, with one exception above, it seems that this site's supporters seem to agree that making fun of Down's Syndrome kids is fair play (but only when they are the children of a known conservative, of course). Anyone like to actually discuss why Family Guy thought the subject was so hilarious ?

Her character is confident, competent, desirable and witty. Howe does that mock people facing the challenges Andrea faces?

Way back when the ADN was investigating the rumors that Sarah Palin wasn't really the birth mother of Trig (and, by the way, they were trying their hardest to disprove those rumors), it would have been so easy for Sarah Palin to ask the attending physician to make a statement. She did not. Why not? My personal suspicion is that it's because there was no physician in a position to make such a statement, because she did not give birth to Trig.

Great post, Phil, on a controversial topic.

The irony of the "Family Guy" debacle is stunning: Palin ends up getting slammed by an agent (Ms. Friedman) of the very cause that she has been cynically building her pro-life/ conservative political credentials upon.

Andrea or another person with DS is the most credible voice for exposing Palin's own "outrage" for what it is.....a shameless vote for sympathy, votes, and, most importantly to the grifter, money from her fans.

The internet abounds with posts from parents with DS children (or children with other disabilities) who are saying that Palin does their cause more harm than good. Her latest sanctimonious tantrum on Facebook (obviously without doing her homework on the show) and the subsequent negative fallout publicly just confirms the opinions of those parents. They are also irritated that Palin "talks the talk" but doesn't "walk the walk" with her own child.

Anyone who can vigorously defend Ms. Palin on these issues obviously has a big political ax to grind.....and that ax doesn't even involve children's disabilities at all. We all know what that ax is.

I agree that saying that her water broke, when it didn't, would be just like Mrs. Todd Palin, who never had an incident happen in her life that she couldn't try to embellish to make it better (remember her saying how hard she paddled to have Willow born on the 4th of July?) But in fact it was Chuck Heath who said it in interview that day. I'm sure that Mrs. Todd Palin was pretty upset about it, because I'm sure that Chuck wasn't authorized to say any such thing.

There's no way that Mrs. Todd Palin had Trig. But when you see the ignorant trolls who support her, you can see why she carried out the deception.

Three observations:

1. Palin was not attacking the voice actress, but the writers.

2. Who is Friedman to say that Trig is not having a normal life? Is she his mother (or father)? Is she his caretaker? All she sees are a few photos or videos of him from time to time. This gives her the knowledge then to claim that Trig is not having a normal life?

3. Palin is carrying Trig around like a loaf of bread? This is a politically motivated attack made for reasons that escape me for the moment. She has no right to judge Palin's parenting abilities as she is no position to actually judge them.

Anonymous said...

Oh, Jesse. You judge Sarah Palin's parenting skills all the time. The difference is, you think they are just fine. So, what inside information do you have that the rest of us don't? A few photos and videos? Sarah Palin's word?

Now why would anyone do such a thing? And then to give him another "joke" name with "Van Palin" (as in Van Halen). She's one sick MF.

The evidence that Palin is a good mother to her children is striking (in this case, I tend to take the word of her children). There are those who choose to ignore it. But unless there is contradicting proof to show otherwise, which Friedman has not presented, then why should I believe the latter's spurious claims that amount to nothing more than unverified opinion.

Unlike certain people, I'm not comfortable calling one person a bad parent without absolute knowledge of the circumstances.

It is easy for one to cast aspersions, however, that does not take into consideration that there are different parenting styles, and one is not necessarily better than the other.

Some mothers and fathers simply try to do their best and fail. Sometimes a child can turn out bad for no reason at all, and through no fault of the parents. Sometimes a parent is abuseful and neglectful. Most of the time most families are just average, with their share of difficulties and trials. The Palins in that sense are just an average family. Nothing special about them. They face a lot of the same things the rest of us have or will.

Now I am not quite sure what your ultimate point is about Palin's parenting skills, Mr. Munger, but if you think something is lacking in that department, why don't you just come out and say it?

As for what some term the "wild wild", this is my view. Medical matters between Sarah Palin and her doctor are private. If Palin wishes to disclose information to us, then that is her prerogative. However, in absence of any other information, we have to take what she said at face value. Sarah Palin has said she consulted her doctor and the physician said it wasn't unreasonable for her to travel back home. The whole situation ended well, therefore what is all the ruckus about? Palin's and the doctor's judgment was correct. How would you like it if some total stranger was intruding on your personal life, telling you and your doctor what both of you should have done regarding some medical issue? Privacy is important in medical matters. Respect hers. It is only decent.

On another topic, I don't know whether Friedman's words were politically motivated or not, but I do know that the only people complaining about Trig's treatment are those who have an agenda, namely, Trig Truther or rabid anti-Palin blogs. That just makes me curious.

Strike 2: Pregnant unwed teen daughter now involved in bitter custody battle.

Strike 3: Younger teen daughter a full-fledged party girl lawyered up on breaking & entering charge, underage alcohol/ drug use.

Strike 4: Even younger daughter dragged around the country instead of being in school.

Strike 5: Disabled baby dragged around the country at the height of flu and H1N1 season, underdressed and without necessary glasses etc.
