Progressive Alaska and Ivan Moore Hosting Berkowitz Fundraiser at Ivan's Place

I would like to invite all the Ethan Berkowitz supporters here at Progressive Alaska to join me in contributing to Ethan's campaign against Diane Benson by going to Ivan Moore's ActBlue page he has created for Ethan.

I just donated $5.00. Got the receipt already:

Ethan Berkowitz -- $5.00
Contributor Information:
Philip Munger
PO Box 874321
Wasilla, AK 99687
United States

So, Ivan just raised another $5.00 for Ethan to use against another Democrat in the primary on August 26. At that site, he's a 24/7 fundraiser for the guy he praises there thusly:

Ethan has the character and integrity and capabilities to make a great Congressman. Take it from me… he can win!

We are holding the fundraiser at Ivan's ActBlue Ethan Shrine until, oh, say, until the next edition of the Anchorage Press comes out, containing the Moore Report, where Ivan gives his totally unbiased views on each of the candidates.

Our favorite "unbiased" pollster. This just doesn't seem right to me somehow.

Keep those love dollars flowing: Ethan's speech and diction lessons are expensive. At least I'm assuming they are...have you noticed that Berkie no longer speaks like fellow San Franciscan Max Greunberg? Go to his website an give him a listen. He almost sounds Alaskan!

Love the Flavah Sava look.

Come on, Ethan supporters!

Pony up.

Am I the only one willing to help Ivan help Ethan thrash Diane Benson?

Ivan, maybe you and I could start matching contributions, eh? Or maybe you can call one of Ethan's Carlyle Group contributors, or Bill Weimar or Ashley to match donations. Bill might not be on your speedy dial, but I'm sure Ashley is, Ivan....

I'm sorry, Phil, but I just can't make myself give money to Ethan's campaign, not even $5. It's going to be hard enough to even vote for him if he wins this primary, much less give him any of my hard-earned cash. I'm sure he has plenty of deep pockets without me.

Ok, now seriously, what has EB done to piss you people off so badly?

Is it really that he accepted money from a PAC that you don't like? Diane Woolsey and half the Dems in the US House also got money from that PAC.

Is it that he's supported by the party and Diane didn't get that same level of support in 2006? (And just so you will know, I've been saying since 2006 that if the party had been smart enough to support Ms. Benson in that election she would be running for re-election now.)

The danger of focusing so much of your attention on where the campaign money come from, savaging members of your own party for supporting members of your own party, is that you risk that same criticism coming back on your chosen candidate.

For example...Diane Benson has accepted more than $25,000 from people in the Gaming industry. There sure are a LOT of people in the state of Alaska who think that gambling is a much bigger sin than, say, getting money from FauxNews and using that money to elect a Democrat. Given the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal that centered on the Gaming industry, is that really the kind of money a new Congresswoman should be accepting?

momossman -- I have a hunch that open secrets dot org will be issuing a very substantial correction to that figure very soon...

Momossman, a man is known by the company he keeps. I have serious issues with Rahm Emanuel and the way he has force-fed his chosen DLC, corporatist, middle-of-the-road candidates to progressive voters all over the country. Alaska is no different. If Ethan had foregone contributions from this source, I would have had a much higher opinion of him.

I was under the impression that Rep. Woolsey's contribution was individual, not PAC. Correct me if I'm wrong, Phil.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Lynn Woolsey doesn't even have a PAC.

Ivan - what a poor sport - just took down his Ethan ActBlue page. Update coming....

Phil, so now you are harassing Democrats who donate to Berkowitz? How un-democratic do you intend to get before this is over?

anon @ #11 - As an Ethan Berkowitz donor myself, I find your comment rather strange.

I am the Treasurer for the Benson Campaign and I have attached a copy of the email that I just sent to the Center for Responsive Politics (CPR) regarding the erroneous number reported for Diane Benson regarding donations. The CRP supplies the data reported by OpenSecrets.ORG.

Sirs:
My name is AS Vita and I am the Treasurer for The Committee to Elect Diane Benson for Congress. Diane Benson is running for U.S. Congress from Alaska.

I was surprised to see that Open Secrets.Org reported that Diane had received $25,800 from "Casinos/Gambling". Supposedly, this information came from The Center for Responsive Politics. I am not sure how you came up with this number but here are the total donations from American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes for the 2008 Primary Election Cycle:

Redding Rancheria 500.00
Tule River Tribal Council 1,000.00
Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians 500.00
Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians 250.00
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation 500.00
Ketchikan Indian Community 500.00
Pauma Band of Mission Indians 1,500.00
Tohono O'Odham Nation 2,300.00
Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe 500.00
Muckleshoot Indian Tribe 2,300.00
Hualapai Tribe 500.00
Cocopah Indian Tribe 250.00

10,600.00

In addition, the Tohono O'Odham Nation has donated $2,300 toward s the General Election. As you can see, the total is well below what you reported and not all of them have casino/gambling interests. In fact, most of them do not. There are certainly no casinos in Alaska. Charities may run Bingo or Pull Tabs but that is it.

I have also scanned our donor lists to see if there were people working for Casinos and found none. We have people who have donated who belong to American Indian Tribes and either the tribes have noting to do with gaming or their jobs have nothing to do with gaming.

So, the question is, how did you come up with such an erroneous number? Given that the Primary election is less than a week away, speed is of the essence here and we would very much appreciate your reviewing your numbers and making the appropriate corrections. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards,
AS Vita
Treasurer,
The Committee to Elect Diane Benson for Congress
