My deepest sympathies go out to the family of Bill Gwatney, the chairman of the Arkansas Democratic party, who was shot and fatally wounded in his Little Rock office this morning. My thoughts, as well as the thoughts of millions of Americans, are with them during this sad time.
It is always upsetting to be reminded of the fact that we still live in a society where there are people who choose to settle their disagreements with weapons instead of words. The diversity of beliefs is a gift to be celebrated, not a burden to lament. We must always remember that regardless of our race, religion, gender, or political affiliation, we are all Americans, and we are all family.
