Oiled Regions of Alaska Foundation Needs Your Support

--- by Michelle Meyer

The Oiled Regions of Alaska (ORA) Foundation is a community based non-profit foundation established by and for Alaskans. Like you, each of us and our families, friends, neighbors and communities suffered from the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

We know that long-term damages continue to haunt our fishing businesses and affect our daily lives. We realize any monetary damage award will not come close to compensating us, our communities and regions for the permanent losses.

This is why affected people joined together to form the Oiled Regions of Alaska Foundation. This foundation serves to help individuals, families and communities rebuild and recover by creating a permanent way to give back year after year.

ORA, through your tax deductible donation and support, gives grants to organizations, agencies and communities – including civic, cultural, educational, health care and social welfare organizations. Priority is given to requests from ORA’s geographical area, in order to benefit the well being of the region.

As Alaskans, we want what is best for Alaska, to help heal the damage done to our communities by working together through this foundation. Your charitable donations can help communities achieve this goal. Please visit us at www.orafoundation.org and contact us for more information.

Please send your tax-deductible donation to ORA FOUNDATION, PO Box 242066, Anchorage, Alaska 99524-2066.

i know governor palin expressed disappointment at the court ruling to cap the punitive damages against exxon. she also mentioned that at least the affected alaskans will have "closure". methinks nothing could be further from the truth.

the fact is that there cannot be closure when oil is still being cleaned up 20 years later and counting. to me, the court ruling closes not so much the book on the ongoing tragedy rather than exxon's pocketbook and continued responsibility.

i really respect you folks' perseverance by enduring and keeping the torch of awareness lit.
