Happy 40th Anniversary, Earth Day

That's the bad news. The good news is that after 40 years of unsustainable population increases, billions of tons of toxic herbicides and pesticides added to the richest farmlands and all waters downstream from them, we are actually still here.

My greenhouse this morning. A table full of plants, growing and awaiting May transplant:

Henderson's Crimson Cushion tomato plant beginning to flower (in April!):

The deck at 3:00 p.m. today:

Earth Day was born out of protest.

Last night there was a documentary on that highlighted video clips of Reagan, Bush, and a few more pollution friendly Rethugnant presidents giving their speeches commemorating Earth Day.

I wonder how many people didn't catch the contradictions...

oh geez, to go from the great greenhouse photos to the photo of the deck -- dang dood *laughing*

Earth Day was created 40 years ago.

40 years ago, Americans actually did more than just make not of it's passing.

They actually demanded action from their government and got results.

20 million people turned out in organized protests.

BY 1990, 200 million people in 140 or so countries around the world turned out in protest.

Today ?

Most Americans couldn't be bothered to make any effort to show any concern for the planet that sustains their very existence.

And that includes most of the folks who claim to be progressives, or liberals.

Earth Day ? Why bother ? Note it's passing, and then blithely forget about protesting the destruction of the planet.

Who cares ? ....right ?

Leave the heavy lifting to someone else. Leave any and all work to someone else.

that coming from a person who hasnt' the capacity to comprehend anything but his own illusions.

You're gonna track me down ?

And what is a WATB milk sop going to do once that happens ?

You've got nothing, in person, or hiding behind your fantasy, (which appears to essentially share much too much overlap, ) .... no matter to me, ....either way, you're irrelevant.

freeper

I'll remind you again, the thread is about a context which it appears is yet another concept you are incapable of addressing, intelligently or otherwise...

Go play in the street..

No need to wait, the evidence is in, jim, you've got nothing...

Scents I believe,

....though you aren't capable of comprehending their source is likely to be of an internal nature.

Too bad you can't seek some sense some time, you'd get more service out of that than more of your disturbed imagined fantasies...

Try something other than your insecurity, like addressing the context of the threads.

...

If you look at the thread, you'll see there is context to address,

...I haven't yet seen a post about your insecurities.

Phil, is your greenhouse heated? We built a little one last fall, but it just relies on sunlight, and I've been too nervous to start anything in it so early.

Hey jim, try addressing the context of the threads,

....your insecurity isn't compelling to anyone but you.

freeper,

The post that generates this thread notes the passing of another Earth Day and of all the comments, the majority of the comments have nothing whatsoever to do with the passing of another Earth Day.

It appears, for those unable or unwilling to address the context of the post, the systematic destruction of the planet that sustains our very existence takes a backseat to banal and trite trivialities.

Yeah, it's good to see the little green sprouts there Gusty. It makes up for lives lost and families devastated due to the oil rig explosion. fucking amazing

At least phil isn't advocating eliminationism.

'Lives lost' doesn't mean much if you get to decide who loses the life, eh ?

Compassion and/or empathy, either one, aren't your strong points.

You present no evidence you're a paragon of environmental awareness, let alone do you display any evidence you're any less inactive when it comes to doing anything about preservation or restoration.
