Sen. Gary Stevens and Rep. Mike Chenault in Secret Agreement with Gov. Palin

I've got it from two informants now. One in Juneau and one in Anchorage. Here are the elements of what appears to be the deal:

1) Attorney General Colberg will be forced to resign, allowing the Alaska Legislature to blame him for Gov. Sarah Palin's probable role in the witness tampering that occurred during the Branchflower Investigation.

2) Alaska Senate President Gary Stevens and Alaska Speaker of the House Mike Chenault will assure that further efforts to investigate either of the Palins' roles in:

a) the termination of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan,

b) the stymying of the Branchflower Investigation, or,

c) the Petumenos Investigation - particularly with the Palins' depositions - are thwarted or ended.

In exchange, Stevens and Chenault will not receive vetoes to projects - yet to be named - in their districts.

Typical Alaska GOP politics. I wonder if Palin had Randy Reudrich help broker the deal. Here we have Mike Chennault, the sole remaining Alaska legislator who was a very big player in the VECO handouts, together with Stevens and Palin, both of whom received thousands from Bill Allen's company, working together to hide the truth.

We can only hope the FBI is onto this deal, and somehow has it taped or documented.

Update - 2:40p.m. Tuesday: It appears Shannyn Moore has now gotten similar information:

Senate President Gary Stevens is under pressure from Palin to sweep all under the rug with this resignation. All the findings in the Branchflower report paid for by Alaskans…irrelevant. Lookie, Talis is gone…it’s all good now!

NO IT’S NOT.

Please tell Mr. Stevens (very respectfully) that we need answers. The $100,000 investigation belongs to Alaskans, not the Governor.

I KNEW there was something fishy about this. Do these people never learn?

Bring on the FBI.

OMG! Stevens said this in ADN:
"Senate President Gary Stevens, a Kodiak Republican, said the Senate passed the contempt resolution to make it clear the matter was closed, not to come down on the governor. He said he was meeting with Palin today to make that clear."
Bring in the FEDS! NOW!

I would be watching very carefully to see where Colberg lands, who is appointed after him, and whether there is any more quid pro quo going on regards the shifting positions -- especially since Cohen is planning on leaving the District of Alaska Federal DA position. Watch to make sure Cohen, Loeffler, Colberg, Petumunos, and any others are not playing musical chairs in a way that would block a Federal investigation.

It is indeed time to bring in the Feds, the FBI, the DoJ, and the ATF.

is it even ETHCIAL that she make such a deal to save her ass? OR that these senators make such a deal with her? i mean, really? no snark intended in this question. i just don't get how this is anything BUT business conducted in that "good ol boy network" style she claimed to have rid the state of. honestly. it's not like this ever went to court and attorneys were brought to the table to discuss a plea deal, for God's sake. so to circumvent the judicial process so flagrantly seems HIGHLY UNETHICAL! and well within the bounds of cause for an impeachment process to be launched. please tell me i'm not losing my mind....

PS: Well now that he's unemployed just like all those other "everday joe six packs", Mr. Monegan's attorney can feel free to supeana him for a deposition for his defemation case against Palin. Go get him, Walt!

Gary, no, tell us it isn't so. Your students believed in you and all the spiel about democracy and freedom of speech. Is there anyone to vote for?
What say Lundquist runs against Stevens in the next election!

Nice job, Phil! Maybe some day we won't actually need the feds to clean house for us. Until then, keep shining the light!

My state senator indicated the house and senate had planned to look further at the AG-- they weren't done with him. Colberg knew this wasn't over. By resigning he was probably trying to avoid impeachment and soften his fall.

In order to repair some of the damage that was done to our state's constitution and our government's balance of power, Colberg should still be found in contempt. His (and Palin's) obstruction of a Senate investigation was wrong and immoral. Republicans in the legislature are trying to avoid formal findings that would make Palin look bad.

Of course Palin should be impeached but our government is too screwed up to allow that to happen. It amazes me that two out of three Alaskans think she is doing a good job while her corrupt bus just keeps on rolling over bodies. Seems like the only thing Palin can do well is force others to take the fall for her treachery.

you're shining the light in the wrong place.

the real story is with colorado railcar and duane gibson, but of "progressives" would rather chase down every last rumor about Ma Palin.

Pretty sad what blogging and the media in this state have come to.

Really.

Start with TriMet, Colorado Railcar, add some Dave Rader and throw in a little Duane Gibson and the Alaska Railroad, and you have the makings of another Don Young scandal.

Of course KTUU will never report on this, the ADN won't touch it, and those bloggers who think they've got such a bead on the real media, well, they'll just ignore it too.

Fine job.

Better call Lansman....lol.....

I'd sure like to see the ADN follow up on this too. Nor has ADN's politics blog or newsreader says nothing about it. (Is it just me, or has the ADN Newsreader gone downhill since the guy doing it now started doing it?)

Pretty bad that Gov. Sarah has to be schooled in Alaska constitutional law by Gary Stevens (re: the letter he wrote her). During her campaign to be VP it became clear she didn't understand the VP's role in government, & it continues to become clearer she doesn't understand the balance of powers between her & the other branches of government here in Alaska. One has to be brain dead not to be entirely disgusted.

Re the ADN, Andrew Halcro is reporting that they're pulling Sean Cockerham back from Juneau. Now they'll have nobody down there covering the goings-on in the capitol. A sad state of affairs. I guess it'll be left to the pathetic anonymous bloggers to ferret out the news.

The Guv's press conference that just ended was a joke...a distraction. Why will the AK MSM not touch this? Last time I checked, Anonymous sources were still credible and viable.
What are the chances of getting your sources on this to go on the record with the ADN, AP, KTUU or anyone else in the MSN?
Would take some balls for sure but it seems as if balls in Juneau are is short supply.

ruh roh, the adn is pulling out, better send Zaki, his stuff has been on CNN !

Time to bring in the Feds, indeed! It looks like the Alaskan government is so riddled with corruption from the top (Governor) on down (Congress) that it will not be possible to ferret out the truth by using insiders.

Keep up the great work, bloggers - you're making this witch chase her tail and her evildoings are beginning to intimidate and suffocate her.

While this is occurring, it appears that Jindal is the new heir apparent of the GOP and they are throwing this sadistic moron under the bus.

Under the bus/out of a job (impending impeachment) and SOL in terms of a national office.

Couldn't happen to a more worthy individual!

P.S. Did I mention potential prison time for obstruction of justice?
