I'll Be Speaking at the Bartlett Democratic Club on Thursday

I'll be this week's guest speaker at Anchorage's Bartlett Democratic Club. Not many speakers there - I attend as often as practical - address classical music, or the fine arts.

Noon on Thursday, at the Denny's on DeBarr, across from Costco.

My topic will be "Is Unbridled New Classical Music Unsafe for the Status Quo?" I'll give an overview of protest music by classical composers, from Beethoven to Copland, from Clara Schumann to Laurie Anderson (yes, I consider Laurie Anderson a "classical" composer).

It is part of my responsibilities this week for the Friday concert of the Anchorage Civic Orchestra, for which I'll be the guest conductor.
