Begich Up by 2,374 Now

At just before 1:00 p.m, Alaska time, the Alaska Division of Elections posted new information on the Stevens-Begich vote count.

Number counted so far today - 14,242
Votes for Mark Begich - 146,286
Votes for Ted Stevens - 143,912
Begich lead - 2,374 votes.

His lead before today, from last week's count, was just over 1,000 votes. On election night, Begich was down almost 4,000. The trend in the late count votes has been inexorably in Begich's favor.

The Ted Stevens office on Fireweed Street in Anchorage has been shut down, the signs gone. The Begich office, and the Anchorage Democrats' offices are both humming with activity.

Most of the remaining late votes to be counted today are from Southeast Alaska, where Begich has been doing surprisingly well, so far.

Ethan Berkowitz has fallen a bit further behind Don Young, in the US House AK-AL seat count.

now he's up by 3,700. the news-miner's headline is "stevens loses 7th bid". stevens loses, not begich wins. it's fairbanks, right?
wow. the post-stevens era in alaska has begun. it feels really strange already.

A new day comes to Alaska. First Dem Senator in 30 years, and equally as important first change from ironman Stevens.

Congratulations Alaskans. As a lower 48ter, I think you'll find much to be happy with with your new Democratic Senate majority, with aid and education and healthcare emphasis.

This has been too weird. I'm not crazy about Mark because while taxes were kept the same, costs went up. I did not want to support him because that was the kind of thing my ex husband would do, not doing one thing but essentially finding another way to get the same results. (Increasing revenue to the city coffers.) I would support Stevens, then attention ho-ho Palin reared her head wanting some national action. So I was not supporting Stevens.

I hope he does well.

Now we need to worry if Palin is licking her well fed chops for Do Young's seat.

Palin wouldn't run for the US House. Running for the House is a lot of work.

i don't want to assume anything here, maybe it's me, but i read this four times and it makes less sense to me each time.
it sounds much less problematic than doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I've been urging Diane Benson to return to her art, which is quite good, and would probably be enriched by all she has been through and learned since November 2005.

I think diane benson would have won if the DCCC and pac money had been spent not in the primary to beat her but in the general to beat don young.

Diane can do both.Berkowitz was forced down our throats by AIPAC and the defense industry, frankly.

And Rahm Emmanuel is always pleased if he can sabotage a Democratic race, and/or leave his handpicked candidates beholden to his neocon, far-right agenda.
