ThisAn innocent error at the Anchorage Daily News Wednesday, brought several people out on call-in radio, blogs, phones and-mail groups. The ADN acted swiftly and fully.
A link to a white power website, viewed by many to be a hate site, posted at the newsreader, to illustrate the relationship between spending and victory in the Anchorage municipal elections this week, pissed some people off.
I was one of them. The site has posted locally written essays claiming, to give one example, that the convictions of African American kids in Jena were just, maybe even soft.
The site's main menu offers up a quick link to a free, downloadable English translation of Mein Kampf.
You can get free stuff there that proves that MLK was a hard-line commie. Several versions.
MalcolmX stuff? --- You bet!
So, the ADN took care of it.
Unfortunately, it is a lot easier to create misunderstanding and contempt for Arabs and adherents to Islam in the American, Alaskan and Anchorage media, than it is to stereotype African Americans, Latinos, Jews and other minorities and heritages.
It shouldn't be.
