If You Liked Avatar, Go See Palestine 101 Tonight at UAA

Back on January 1st, I linked to Israeli jazz pianist Gilad Atzmon's review of the Acadamy Award-nominated movie, Avatar. In it, he compares the Na'vi to the Palestinians. Now Palestinian kids are fighting the Apartheid Wall, as shown at left by a Reuters photographer.

Philip Weiss' blog, mondoweiss is covering this today, in an article titled, Who Would Teargas Avatar?

The award-winning film, Occupation 101: Voices of the Silenced Majority, will be shown at UAA Friday. Here's information from a press release by my friends at Alaskans for Palestine:

A powerful documentary film on the current and historical root causes of the Israeli-Palestine conflict and U.S. government involvement. The film includes thought-provoking commentaries from a "Who's Who List" of leading Middle East scholars, peace activists, religious leaders and humanitarian workers whose voices have too often been suppressed in American media outlets.

Sponsored by Alaskans for Peace & Justice

UAA Social Science Building Room 118
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

There will be a discussion afterward.

Here's a youtube of the kids and young people - including Israeli peace activists - demonstrating against the wall today:

How can it be an Apartheid Wall if Arabs are living in Israel already ? Is this also the same wall that has cut down the number of suicide bombings (you know, when Israeli men, women and children are turned into chunks of bloody flesh whilst eating pizza or dancing in a disco) to ZERO ? Do you think that's a bad thing? BTW do the smurfs from Avatar go to Earth and blow themselves up in buses or in marketplaces like your beloved Palestinians do ?(oh and don't forget the ball-bearings they pack in those suicide vests to cause maximum damage to flesh and muscle tissue)

So, how's that whole anti-semite. pro-Islamofascist thing working out for you?

I'm anti-Zionist Expansion.

That has nothing to do with your label.

I despise Islamofascism equally. Perhaps more.

If you haven't figured that out by now, I can help you find a reading comprehension course near where you live.

If you can't afford paying for the course, we could help raise some money for you here, if you'd give us enough information to assist you.

The wall is:

1) collective punishment

2) a land grab

3) designed to stifle Palestinian economic growth

4) really, really stupid

"I despise Islamofascism equally. Perhaps more."

Can you give any examples of this hatred of islamofascism ? I've seen no examples of it.Plenty of hits on rightwing Christians and "Zionists" but nothing against islamofascists.

"1) collective punishment"

You've just attempted to smear Palin by linking her to two nutjobs and yet you moan about collective punishment when Israel has had to defend itself from thousands of acts of terrorism against it. If the Palestinians could control their genocidal rage against the Jews, the wall would not have been needed.

"2) a land grab"

Sure, huge land grab. Thousands of acres of fertile land ! And yet, strangely, Israel gave up all of Gaza. Seems the Israelis have a lot to learn about land grabs.

"3) designed to stifle Palestinian economic growth"

Rubbish. It's in Israel's interests for the Palestinians to develop a proper economy. bUt the Palestinians would rather kill Jews than get on with improving their lives. Look at the acres of working greenhouses Israel handed over to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. And what did the Palestinians do with those greenhouses ? They smashed them to pieces because Jews had built them.

"4) really, really stupid"

Please explain how protecting your citizens from suicide bombers is "really, really stupid". I ask you again, would you prefer the wall gone and hundreds of Isrealis to die in terror attacks ?

So rockets shot from Palestinians into Israel are OK as far as Progressive Alaska is concerned?

I have enjoyed reading Progressive Alaska, but if you are turning to a Israel hate blogger, then I am done.
You are no different then the wack-o PETA screamers.

I am taking Progressive Alaska off my bookmarks.

Well, the Roman Palestine and Avatar are both a work of fiction so I guess a fictitious people dressing up like another fictitious people is a move in the right direction.

Of course not. Where have I written in favor of that here or anywhere?

Throwing tear gas canisters back at those who have shot them at you is not the same thing.

And these kids aren't in Israel, they are in Palestine.
