Palin Backs Out of CPAC Appearance

From U.S. News & World Report:

The opening-day headliner for the annual CPAC conservative convention February 26-28, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has pulled out, citing state business in Juneau. "We're obviously disappointed," said a CPAC official.

A spokesman for the three-day confab, organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation and others, said that Palin, the popular former vice presidential nominee, had indicated she would be able to attend but cited "duties of governing" in bowing out. Instead, she will send in a taped message.

The decision was clearly a blow to many of those planning to be there, who expected to see Palin address the group on the opening day and Obama foe Rush Limbaugh wrap up the convention. Limbaugh is confirmed to speak on Saturday, February 28.

One conservative associated with the convention said Palin, who earlier this month attended the prestigious Alfalfa Club dinner, was "making a mistake" by not appearing in person. But another said that the taped message, while lacking the wow factor of an in-person presentation, showed that she was still keen on keeping close ties to the conservative movement as she builds her political action committee, SarahPAC, and considers her national career in politics.

"Business in Juneau"?

Would that be sending out a cattle call for lawyers hard up for work and maybe interested in joining her close-knit team of sycophants?

lol..posters on Free Republic are all saying how wonderful Palin is, for staying in Alaska instead of going to CPAC. Most of them believe it is because the volcano is supposed to be set to erupt during that time frame. Wow...they will give her any excuse to be an idiot, wont they?

I doubt Sarah's withdrawal has anything to do with the crisis in AK's rural native villages, a possible volcanic eruption, or even the search for a new AG.

I'm guessing her PAC isn't pulling in enough money for her to make a trip with little impact on a national audience. After all, it's only going to be political rivals at CPAC.

Ennealogic,

I hadn't even considered that, but you might just have something...

Palin cannot appear in person--anywhere--because she cannot carry on an intelligent conversation about issues, apparently, not even with other republicans who likely would vote the same way.

Palin "feels" rather than "thinks" and even some republicans "think" enough to place her at a disadvantage.

We all know "governing Alaska" is just an excuse to get out of a public appearances.

Who is paying for the 'taped message'?

Palin can't have a 6th child. I think thats not a reason for her pulling out.

Here it is - she's finally getting some real advice from an agent, such as would give her a book deal. This media savvy soul is telling La Palin, "Darling, you can't show up to the opening of an envelope! I didn't negotiate this gig and it pays peanuts. Have some class, they'll only want you more if you stay home,etc.." (yes that's how they talk.) The happy result is that we get less of Palin. The bad side is, she's getting smarmy, steamy, showbizzy advice, but it's STILL better advice than she's ever had before!

I think she is getting the message from the Repugs that her stench is getting to be a bit too much. They are trying to let her down easy and letting her know she isn't the "it" girl anymore. It hadn't occured to me earlier but I read it on a blog, that Limbaugh isn't even slathering over her anymore. Her 15 minutes might be over. But she is going down in a blaze.
