Sen. Begich to Visit the Y-K Delta, Alaska Veterans

From a press release from Sen. Begich:

Sen. Begich will discuss the economic recovery package in Bethel on Thursday [February 19th] when he travels to the village for a series of meetings. Traveling with the Director of Congressional Affairs for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Darren Pete, Sen. Begich will tour the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation and meet with a number of community leaders from the region to talk about the recovery package and how it can help rural Alaska.

also:

As part of his ongoing effort to stay in touch with the needs and concerns of Alaska’s military veterans, Sen. Mark Begich will hold veterans listening sessions in Anchorage and Fairbanks when he returns to Alaska next week for the President’s Day recess.

“One of my priorities is to serve the needs of the men and women who have defended our country,” said Sen. Begich, who serves on both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Veterans Affairs. “I’m looking forward to returning to Alaska and talking to our veterans about health care, retirement issues, pay and allowances, and the many other issues that affect their well being.

The veterans listening session in Anchorage will be held Monday, Feb. 16, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Carpenter’s Hall, 410 Denali Street.

On Tuesday, Sen. Begich travels to Fairbanks where he’ll hold another veterans listening session and also speak to the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce.

The Fairbanks veterans listening session is scheduled Feb. 17, from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at the Moose Lodge, 98 10th Avenue.

Our new senator seems to be doing his job AND the governor's job.

ravenstrick - the responsibilities of Sen. Begich and Gov. Sarah Palin don't overlap very much. If he does the job of Senator on the Y-K delta, it will be a big improvement over either Stevens or L. Murkowski.

Don't be surprised if the governor pops up out there real soon.

How was Begich's joining with the likes of Senator Nelson and the Republicans to eliminate $300 million for USDA facility upgrades, propose a fifty percent cut in the NASA exploration budget, cut the entire NSF budget increase, propose a 35% cut in the increase for the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration, engineer a fifty percent cut for the Violence Against Women Act, propose a 38% cut in the increase for the Department of Energy's Alternative and Renewable Program, a 47% cut in the increase of the EISA technology loan program, cut the entire increase for the DoE Office of Science, plus the entire increase for the National Park Service Historic Site Restoration Fund, cut 100% of the increase to the Smithsonian's Capital Fund, eliminate the entire increase for the Department of Education's Disability Research program, cut the entire $39 billion (plus change) that would help decimated state budgets. and propose a cut of 50% of the increase to Head Start, plus cut ninety percent of the HHS increase that would have paid for smoking prevention, HIV detection, diabetes detection and prevention, and pandemic flu preparation, and finally propose a cut of 100% of the increase for State Department Consular Programs and Services, be characterized as a big improvement?

Anonymous.....whhhhaaaattt? Can you make your point in a simple interrogatory sentence instead of writing the entire Obama stimulus package text between "How was Begich's joining..." and "...be characterized..."?

Phil, won't Gov. Sarah be out halfway out there in Fairbanks, anyway, waiting for First Dude?

Pretty d'm'd funny if it takes a visit by the new AK Democratic Senator to goose the Gov. to show up somewhere in western Alaska for any OTHER reason than thawing out The First Dude.

woah dude, Palin's favorite store in Anchorage was forced to change it's name and neither you or CD has covered this....

what's going on here, this is big news !

Huh? Nordstrom's had to change their name?

I thought John Moller was scheduled to head to the Delta this week--- will Palin be going with him?

Seems that if Mark can get to the delta from DC, Sarah could get there from Juneau, even if only to see Todd in Nome. She just doesn't want to face the music in Western Alaska. The legislature took 3 days off this weekend and came home it would have been a good time for her to go out there.

Kajo, your comprehension level is indicative of the irrelevance of your whining.

That isn't the stimulus package I noted, that was what Begich was working with the Republicans to cut out of the stimulus package.

Of course, if you could comprehend what you read, you would have understood that.

As it is, your puerile fixation on Palin is more of an indicator of shallowness of your maturity level, all of which leaves you ill-equipped to think of yourself as relevant..
