The editorial was very carefully crafted. It fervently hopes that Obama will see the light, and endorse development of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge's coastal plain tracts for drilling. And it stops short of setting a stern tone about the importance of this election in American history.
The ADN attempts to put our governor's presence on the ticket in some sort of perspective, though:
Gov. Palin has shown the country why she has been so successful in her young political career. Passionate, charismatic and indefatigable, she draws huge crowds and sows excitement in her wake. She has made it clear she's a force to be reckoned with, and you can be sure politicians and political professionals across the country have taken note. Her future, in Alaska and on the national stage, seems certain to be played out in the limelight.
Perhaps the least fortunate paragraph in a fairly good essay? That sucker was most likely written by committee, eh?

But the question is HOW will it be "played out in the limelight"? I find that statement delightfully ambiguous. :)
This comment is not germane to this post, but what the hell.
I came upon your blog after the Palin VP disaster was announced it, and got acquainted with other Alaska Progressive bloggers through your links.
And what a delight it has been! Thanks to you and your "fellow travelers" for portraying a face of the state that I did not know existed.

The Palin paragraph was written by a committee that included the Marketing Department.
According to Republican letter writers in the ADN, future anthropologists excavating the Anchorage landfill are going find these odd occurences of ADN editorial pages wadded up with parakeet droppings in the middle, and a few wrapped around fish bones. I wonder what they will conclude?
it was an odd read, a kind of coolly calculated, methodical dissection of a candidate who [to my way of thinking] is the most electrifying presence to come along in decades.
it was more fun to read the mc cain endorsement, reprinted from a dallas newspaper they ran below. they just kept hammering the long experience of mc cain -- but doesn't that fall to pieces, when you consider he's 72 and his VP candidate is the least experienced in presidential campaingn history, widely viewed as incapable?
and no amount of cheerleading can fix that.
