Sen. Ted Stevens has been found guilty on all seven felony counts, eight days before he is to stand for re-election. He will surely lose to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich now, even in Alaska.
The rumor I heard last week from a friend who used to be on the Alaska GOP Central Committee, is that should what happened this morning happen - the guilty verdict - the top Alaska GOP leadership will seek to remove Stevens from the ticket, and have a replacement - most likely Mead Treadwell - put onto the ballot in Stevens' place.
No doubt President Bush will pardon Sen. Stevens.

Could it be time for a Thank You FBI rally this weekend?
I'd go.
Mead Treadwho?
Sean Parnell on the ticket?
You know, this result is bigger than life. It now becomes art. Senator Stevens did so much for Alaska, so early, so often and so well. It's really a tragedy and we need to reflect on what happens to a person long accustomed to such power.
This now evident abuse has crossed party lines in American history. I am pleased that Alaska might gain a Democrat in the Senate but I am also saddened to see this very human fall from grace.
It deserves grand opera. Are you up to it, Phil?
You can't spell convicted without TED.
