Yesterday, my next-door neighbor and I retrieved our floats from a cove where they settled in after being sheared off their mooring in a wind storm. Here I was, towing it out of the icy corner of the cove Sunday:
This morning, when I got up at 5:00 a.m, the wind was dying down, but the lake was still mostly ice-free. At 6:00 a.m, the wind stopped. At 8 degrees Fahrenheit, the lake froze over during the next 90 minutes.
