An Apology to Jake and Ethan

In an article at Progressive Alaska on May 15, I went too far in an attempt to describe how both of you have under estimated Diane Benson. You have both objected to me about that characterization. Having spoken to you both, and to others, I now realize the description I used wasn't just careless. It was over the line, and just plain wrong.

I sincerely apologize.

Phil -- Now this is a nice post with which to start my work week. I am very impressed that you had the sense to cool your jets and offer these guys an apology. I really like reading your blog, but have to say some of the latest posts have seemed so vehemently bitter and unlike you.

Kudos to you for your apology.

Now, what about an apology to Sean Cockerham for starting his hearing aid fund?

Two minutes for high sticking, and you are back on the ice. Its all part of the game. Just don't get a game misconduct, eh?

Question. I listened to a part of Ethan Berkowitz's speech, rebroadcast on the radio, a part regarding health care. He was waxing eloquent on Alaskan health care problems and the lack of insurance. Is his position changing on universal health care? It sounded as though he was trying to be more aggressive on the subject, but left me scratching my head because he did not unambiguously say, one way or the other. I understand Diane Benson's position to be rock solid supporting single payer UHC.

More questions:

Did you think this up on your own, or were you asked to do it by Benson?

Has Benson likewise separated herself from your ill-chosen and shameful comments, or does she still think that she was treated "like a squaw" by Jake and Ethan?

And do you still think its appropriate to characterize Jake as a "poor loser" -- or does this apology encompass that odious charge, as well?
